An mindful shift starts with us.
The human mind is complex but infinitely brilliant. Scientists haven't even cracked its true potential. They limit themselves only to science. Everyone limits themselves only to what they know. The everyone I'm talking about are the ones who flood our TVs with commercials, the next show to binge watch, the list goes on and on. Yes, they do their study that proves that not only will we binge watch and absolutely love it but we will also demand more.
Don't get me wrong, I do it too. It's easier to watch TV and live vicariously through superheroes, genius detectives, doctors who really care about their patients and lawyers who fight for their clients for free.
Think about this.
While I'm binge watching a truly enthralling show about a brilliant hacker in a black hoodie fighting for the little guy like me, erasing my debt, making this world a better place, what's really going on is year by year, month by month, day by day, hour by hour we are allowing the destruction of this planet. Blind to the events unfolding around us caused by racism, greed, vanity, and many others adjectives and adverbs that describe our behaviors.
Some of us will wake up too late. When something has happened that has directly affected us in some way. In our city, on our block, in our school.
Why is it that we only act when we are directly affected by something? I know why I do.
Because I've been conditioned throughout my entire life that I'm not important enough to make a difference, I don't possess the kind of intelligence to make an impact, nothing that I can do will bring about change, I have no money to contribute to anything so I might as well keep my ass planted on the couch in front of the TV, go to work, pay my Bill's, be a productive member of society, raise my daughter to become just like me.
OR....................what?
Were you expecting something from me?
I am expecting something from myself. Don't worry, it's coming. Stay tuned....
